Let me start by thanking Donny Cates for the opportunity he has provided Comic Black Book. The chance of getting an advanced copy of God Country #5, in addition to a couple of his other works such as REDNECK #2 and his upcoming title Babyteeth #1, is incredible and huge for us!

God Country began as the heartbreaking story of the Quinlan family as they try to make ends meet through the difficulties of having a family member with dementia. However, that all changes when Emmet Quinlan gets a hold of a magical sword named Valofax that gives him the ability to regain his consciousness and his health, bringing him back to this world, back to life.

The formerly dementia ridden Emmet goes through immense hardship as he realizes that life has moved on without him. The realization alone of losing a wife, gaining a granddaughter you never saw grow up, and the unintentional torment inflicted to your family at your own hands since the disease took over, would be enough to knock the best of us off our feet.

If that alone is not enough to get you to your Local Comic Book Store to hunt down any available issues, or at the very least, on Comixology to buy the story, then let me add that it takes a crazier turn when the God who the sword belongs to comes looking to get it back!

This title is full of magic, action, and most importantly… heart. There is plenty of heart in this extraordinary story of heartbreak and loss along with love and life lessons to be learned by the reader.

And yes, I had the opportunity to read Issue #5 and all I can say is that it has been consistently an out of this world experience, almost literally at times, but I don’t want you to take my word for it, I want you to go experience it for yourself! However, I will give you a little meat to bite into. If you are curious as to the backstory of Valofax, its creator, and the world it came from, that is exactly what you get in this issue.

I will leave you with some art from the issue, don’t worry, it won’t be spoilery and lastly, I’d like to bow for the art team comprised of Geoff Shaw, Jason Wordie, John J. Hill for bringing this world to life in a breathtaking way!

Again, many thanks to Donny Cates and Image Comics and make sure to pick up God Country #5 at your Local Comic Book Store this Wednesday, May 17th. I promise you won’t regret it.
